Google desire to acquire Motorola Mobility which produce Motorola smartphone finally approved by the U.S. Department of Justice and the European Commission. Approval of the acquisition news was already circulating last week, but not yet official. Then, at local time yesterday, Motorola Mobility acquisition by Google officially approved by the U.S. Department of Justice and the European Commission.
Google offer at 12.5 billion dollars to acquire Motorola Mobility which finally approved by the U.S. Department of Justice.
Along with the approval of the Motorola acquisition, the U.S. Justice Department also approved the purchase of Nortel patents by a consortium led by Apple Inc. The consortium consists of several technology companies other than Google, like Microsoft, Apple Inc., RIM BlackBerry and others.
Approval of the acquisition of Motorola Mobility by Google is not without conditions. Although approved, but the U.S. Justice Department and also the European Commission will monitor the use of patents which including strategic by Google, after acquiring Motorola which has over 17,000 patents and almost 7,000 others in a pending condition.
Of course, the successful of Motorola Mobility acquisition is not the end from Google effort for further spread the influence in the handset field.
If we see, before the acquisition approval, only Google which doesn't have its own handset manufacturers, while they have the largest smartphone operating system in the world, which is Android.
The acquisition also makes Google could head to head with another vendor that produces smartphones like Apple Inc. Also some Android smartphone vendors producer such Samsung, LG and HTC.
Although promised not to prioritize the Motorola Mobility, of course, other vendors will probably choose an option such as Windows Phone to compete with Motorola Mobility which incidentally is owned by Google.
